There are a number of trees in Stanney Brook Corridor with wildlife residing there, will they be cut down?
A local resident was very concerned by the threat of several beautiful oak trees being cut down in Stanney Brook Corridor, particularly as these trees had a colony of bats nesting in them. After speaking with the Kingsway Delivery Team concerning the matter, it was confirmed that these trees were protected from any felling activity, therefore securing the bats’ habitat and maintaining the natural beauty that these fine trees provide. On occasions pruning work will have to be done to maintain their health and for the safety of the public.

Will there be public transport in place so that local people across the borough can access the jobs on Kingsway?
A dedicated Transport Group are working to develop a range of services such as shuttle buses, demand responsive transport and Metrolink to Kingsway. It is expected that these will be in place by the time the companies are located on Kingsway, with Metrolink available by 2013. A thorough transport plan is being developed and the Partnership looks forward to a Transport Co-ordinator joining the Delivery Team in the near future.

How many of the 7250 jobs will be
Until businesses are signed up to each unit we are not able to confirm the actual number of new jobs. However, what the Kingsway Partnership can guarantee is that we are working to ensure those businesses locating on Kingsway will provide the greatest economic benefit in terms of new jobs and safeguarding jobs already in Rochdale. Not to mention supply chain benefits and the new staff local companies may need to take on to meet new demands.

What provisions have been made to combat issues of drainage caused by construction and the development as a whole?
Stanney Brook Corridor will play a key role in the drainage of the
whole of Kingsway with four drainage attenuation lagoons being created.
These will not be permanent water features but rather wetland areas
which will add to the diverse ecology of the area, and act as holding
areas in times of high rainfall to ensure the Stanney Brook River is
not overloaded.

What measures are being taken to ensure that the jobs that will be available on Kingsway will be available to local residents within the Borough?
The Kingsway Recruitment Team (KRT) is working hard to ensure that the
skills level within the Borough is improved through the provision of
training for local residents. The Team will have contact with the new
employers many months before they move onto site, allowing them to have
an insight into the staffing requirements the employer will have.
Through the support provided, local residents who have accessed the
training will have the relevant skills for the jobs available and will
be introduced to the employers through the KRT.
